Microsoft lost search engine battle because it ignored Long Tail in Search

Ever thought how come a firm with billions of dollars of R&D budget can lose to a newbie in search engine battle? Well, it turns out Microsoft made a technical mistake. The current Bing boss Yusuf Mehdi said that Microsoft lost search engine battle with Google because it ignored Long Tail in search.

Wondering what the hell is Long Tail? Well, its a technical jargon meaning it returned queries for popular sites and failed to serve queries with smaller, lesser known resources online.

And Google didn't ignore it!

That's the reason why Microsoft lags far behind Google in search engine market share (Google accounts for 65% of US search queries while Microsoft holds 11.5%).

So next time you use Bing for lesser known resources and don't get relevant results you know what caused it.

And you also know where to go -- GOOGLE!
